Utagawa Kunisada/Toyokuni III (Japanese, 1786-1865). Woodblock print triptych depicting the ninth chapter from the Japanese classic "Genji Monogatari (The Tale of Genji), " depicting Prince Genji at Sodegaura in Sagami Province, 1855. Sheets 4, 5, and 6 from an original set of six (a double triptych).
The prints illustrate Genji surrounded by Bijin (courtesans) in a terraced room overlooking Sodegaura and Tokyo Bay. Censor seal of Aratame; date seal for 1853 – the year of the hare; publisher seal of Izumiya Ichibei used between 1855 and 1860; bearing a #9 Genji Mon.

Condition: General wear consistent with age including very faint creases and small areas of discoloration.
