Taxidermy wall mount of a bowfin fish. This fish is also known by the names: mudfish, mud pike, dogfish, grindle, grinnel, swamp trout, and choupique. The bowfin is considered a ‘living fossil’ being only one of two surviving species of Halecomorphi, a group of fish that first appeared approx. 250 million years ago during the Early Triassic.
Height: 4 in x length: 27 in x width: 7 in.
Condition: Wear commensurate with age and material. There is a loss ot the fish’s right eye. There are a few cracks forming along the right side of the fish’s body. Minute to small losses to the feet, and along the extreme edges of the fins. Dust gathered along recessed areas. Oxidation to the metal hardware.
