Circa 1900. Six twisted strands of red, yellow and blue glass trade beads. Pendants
are locally made lost-wax brass, loop-tipped and strung on fiber extracted from Screw Pine
leaves. The pendants are composed of boldly patterned copper and brass alloy discs strung
on a braided cord.
The particular arrangement of beads and brass ornaments was not primarily for decoration.
This brass and glass bead waist ornament is called a ?benyop.? It is worn by young women
before the birth of their first child of the Adi-Minyong Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh (Siang
District) in Northeast India.
Overall length 32" 84 cm
The central disk is 48 cm diameter and including is 58 cm
Left disk (as worn) 46 cm and 56 cm. Right disk (as worn) 42
cm and 55 cm
Condition: General wear throughout from age and use. Imperfections due to hand-made nature of the item.
