Bronze medal featuring Thomas Jefferson on the front. Text above reads "Th. Jefferson, President of the U.S. , A.D. 1801". The back depicts hands clasped in a handshake, and above, a peace pipe crossed with a tomahawk. Text on reverse reads "Peace and Friendship". These medals were produced after the Louisiana Purchase and were given to those going on expeditions to be given out as a sign of friendship between the settlers and the Native Americans.
