The First Edition contains multiple illustrations & detailed information about early Native
Americans throughout the US. 346 illustrations: color, sepia, and black & white plates. Papers covering Mythologies of North and Central American Indians, languages, picture writing, and more including an extensive report by J. W. Powell.
The Twentieth Edition contains many illustrated examples of early pottery, tools, methods etc. hand drawn and hand painted lithograph illustrations.
Each volume contains a large number of descriptive drawings and dozens of illustrations. Produced exclusively for these publications the colorful and informative images have virtually never been seen in public.

Condition: Wear commensurate with age and use, including some tears and losses. The covers of both books are slightly loose and fragile. Front covers of both books are loose and have been mended. Leather portions of covers are dried and cracked with some losses. Text blocks are complete and in excellent condition. One tipped-in map has been torn out but is included.
