Hungarian or Western Slovakian, ca. 1850-1900. Woman’s bonnet with a softly square profile, constructed in plum-colored silk with floral motifs and accented by wide bands of black brocade on cream ground. Decorated with metallic embroidery and sequins in stylized floral clusters. Interior gathered and lined with hand-stitched linen. Likely used in bridal or festival settings. Iron rings at the nape suggest attachment of ribbons or veiling. Used for a bride or a married woman’s ceremonial bonnet.

Condition: Some wear to thread. Some sequins are losse and there are likely some small losses. Some oxidization to metallic thread. Moderate textile wear.
