Tom Swopes (American, 20th/21st century). Ceramic sculpture titled "The Collector, " 1985. Depicting the artist’s take on the mythological tale of Leda and the Swan, presenting Leda as an aggressive, dominant figure atop a mound of swans. Incised signature, titled, and dated along the verso of the sculpture.
Swopes’ artistic style frequently reflects themes of balance, addressing the polarities necessary to any system: life and death, joy and sorrow, happiness and sadness, creation and destruction. Much of his work incorporates dreamlike motifs and appears to represent his reflection on the journey of life.
Height: 19 1/4 in x width: 14 in x depth: 14 in.
Condition: Due to the nature of the work, it is difficult to discern whether there are losses; however, there are no obvious or major losses. A few light accretions and dust gathered along recessed areas. Light wear to the base; including scuffs and scratches. The sculpture is not affixed to the base.
