Warren MacKenzie (American, 1924-2018). Group of four studio pottery ceramic cups. Stoneware executed in a variety of glazes; including glossy brown, black, and tan as well as one cup with speckled mat yellow-green glaze. Two of the cups stamped along the footrim.
Warren MacKenzie was a renowned Minnesota studio potter. A student of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, he is credited with bringing the functional Mingei tradition to the United States, and spreading it through his own art and mentorship of students during his long tenure at the University of Minnesota.
Height ranges from 3 1/4 in to 3 1/2 in; diameter ranges from 2 3/4 in to 3 1/2 in.
Condition: To each there are no major breaks, cracks, or losses. To the brown cup there is a small loss to the glaze along the upper rim. To the tan cup there are small losses to the glaze along the underside. To each there is light wear along the footrim.
