Style of the Minneapolis Handicraft Guild, Minnesota. Early 20th century Arts & Crafts pottery vase with glossy brown and green drip glaze, ca. 1920s.
Height: 25 in x diameter: 12 in.
Condition: Crazing to the glaze throughout. There are minute areas of chipping along the extreme edges of the circular foot, as well as two larger chips; there is one small chip along the rim. Along the underside, there is a large fissure resembling a crack; however, given the consistency of the glazing along the exterior as well as the pooled glaze along the interior, the fissure appears to be a firing flaw. Some chipping along the fissure visible from the exterior; there is a moderate crater along the interior, however, due to the nature of the firing flaw, it is difficult to ascertain whether it is original to the firing process or a later loss. Some scuffs and scratches along the extreme edges of the base, consistent with use over time.
