Smith Metal Arts Company, New York, United States. Arts & Crafts bronze vase of elongated form with sterling silver overlay, model no. 8087, ca. 1920s. Incised "Silver Crest" and numbered along the underside.
Following the passing of its founder, Otto Heintz, in 1918, the Heintz Art Metal Shop gradually declined. In 1919, Fred C. Smith, Heintz’s head salesman, left the firm, taking many of its veteran metalworkers with him. Together, they founded the Smith Metal Arts Company, and many of their early designs bear a striking resemblance to Heintz’s products.
Height: 6 in x diameter: 3 in.
Condition: Tarnishing throughout. There are several bends along the rim. There is a dent along the lower third of the vase, above the footrim. Light dust gathered along the interior.
