Collection of 9 rare recovered relics found in the vicinity of the American Civil War Battle of Gettysburg. The Battle of Gettysburg took place in and around Gettysburg, Pennsylvania from July 1 to July 3, 1863.
Each item in this collection has provenance information that may include who found the relic, the location it was found, when the item was found, and other interesting facts about the item. Most statements include a photo of the item to which it pertains.
In order from left to right, top to bottom, the collection consists of:
– Large brass spoon handle with inspector marks, found on Little Round Top. Formerly part of the Iva Rosensteel Collection.
– Type II William’s Cleaner Bullet found between Herr’s Ridge Road and Country Club Road. Formerly part of the Iva Rosensteel Collection.
– Dropped Confedarate .58 Gardner Patent Bullet found on First Days Battlefield. Purchased from the Shields Museum Collection.
– US .58 Caliber Minie Ball found in the Wheatfield. Found by John Cullison and later was part of the Rosensteel Family Collection.
– .52 Caliber Sharps Carbine or Rifle Bullet found near Taneytown Road. Formerly part of the Ken Bream Collection.
– Partially mushrooomed fired bullet found on Trostie Farm. Formerly part of the Iva Rosensteel Collection.
– Bullet recovered from Hagerstown, Maryland on part of a ridge that served as a defensive line for the army of Northern Virginia during the retreat from Gettysburg.
– High velocity impact and mushroomed fired bullet found near Devil’s Den and Big Round Top. Formerly part of the Iva Rosensteel Collection.
– Fired bullet found near Devil’s Den. Formerly part of the Iva Rosensteel Collection.
Items are housed in a padded wood and glass display case with custom plaques.
Condition: Items were found and/or excavated from sites. Wear consistent with the age and nature of the relics.
